Hail Damage happens here in Minneapolis, and Dent Kraft is your one-stop-shop for repairs.
Our Hail Repair Process
Most hail damage can be repaired with a process called Paintless Dent Removal. To start the process, one of our PDR technicians will assess your vehicle’s hail damage and determine if it can be repaired through PDR.After we determine the best course of repairs for you, we will get you on the schedule.
You will call your insurance company and let them know you choose a shop. They may make you get a preliminary estimate, and this is because they are the gatekeepers of the process and money. We will negotiate with your insurance company and get a complete and correct estimate written for the cost of repairs.
During the repair process, we will tear your car down. This process may consist of removing interior panels, taillights, body panels, and other trim pieces that may be obstructing full access to each dent left behind by the hail.
A specialized light is then used to get a better view of each dent. Using a unique set of tools, the technician carefully massages the metal back into shape (sometimes using heat) until the dent returns to its original factory shape.
Once the PDR process is complete, all body panels, interior trim pieces, and other removed parts are put back in place. We do a thorough quality check to ensure everything is functioning and that we fixed every dent left behind on your car.
Insurance
Hail repair is covered under your comprehensive policy. A Comprehensive policy is a type of policy that covers your vehicle in the case of theft or damage done to it through an incident that isn’t a collision, like a tree falling on your car or hail.
When widespread hail or other natural disasters strike, insurance companies set up CAT stations where they can give you a rough estimate of what the damage will cost to repair. At this point, you can cash out what they estimate if you choose not to repair your vehicle, or you will be advised to visit a Body Shop for a more accurate estimate. (We hope you choose us!)
Once our shop has the preliminary estimate, we may issue a supplementary estimate if the insurance company’s initial assessment will not cover the repairs’ cost. Once approved, they can proceed with tearing down and repairing the vehicle.
It’s important to remember that you have the right to choose your repair shop in the state of Minnesota. While the insurance company may “push or steer” their suggested shop on you, they cannot make you go to one of their preferred shops. This is illegal. You have the right to go to the shop of your choice and no one, but you can make that decision.

Hyundai Santa Fe Dent Repair – This repair was not what we would consider an “average” dent. As you can see from the picture below, this type of repair can be done but it is much more time consuming and very difficult to return the panel back to its original shape. After several hours, we were able to restore the shape of this fender for this Hyundai Santa Fe dent repair. Fortunately, there was only minor paint damage that we were able to buff out after the dent was removed. The owner was amazed we were able to remove such a large dent and was very happy to have saved so much money using paintless dent removal as compared to conventional body work.
Dent Kraft technicians utilize special tools and techniques to complete the paintless dent removal process. Using these techniques, we are able to “massage” the metal back to its original shape without causing harm to the paint. It is important to preserve the factory paint finish as it is more durable than any secondary paint job that would be performed at a body shop. The fact that you don’t have to paint a specific panel on your vehicle also prevents the problem of color matching the new paint to your car’s factory finish. Paintless Dent Removal can also save you hundreds of dollars as compared to a conventional repair found at a body shop.
Paintless Dent Removal not only saves you money for the repair cost, but can save you money on your insurance costs as well. A dent that is repaired at a body shop via conventional bodywork with a paint job will likely be over your insurance deductible. In many circumstances, an insurance claim will be filed, possibly raising your rates. That same dent can be repaired using Paintless Dent Removal at a price below your insurance deductible. Therefore a claim does not need to be filed, saving you money in the long run.

Maserati Gran Turismo Dent Repair – When the owner of this Maserati came into our shop, he was upset that he found a door ding in his brand new Gran Turismo. He had been referred to Dent Kraft by a friend and he was told we were the best dent guys around. We explained to him that the dent was of average size but it was very deep, and near a body line. We explained that this can be a difficult dent to remove. The depth of the dent and its proximity to the body line adds stress to the paint which can cause the paint to crack. The owner said he was going to repair the damage one way or another, so if it couldn’t be repaired using paintless dent removal techniques, he would bring it to a body shop for conventional repairs involving body work and painting the door.
